TODAY's A GREAT DAY CAMPAIGN

The State of Virginia requires that children be up-to-date on physicals and immunizations for school and for learning. The Richmond and Henrico Health Districts and their partners have developed materials to assist parents in making informed choices about vaccination. You can protect your child from preventable diseases by ensuring they get their immunizations on time.

Design Direction - The people

I created the “Today’s a great day” conceptual and creative design and illustrated the entire campaign. I designed flyers, shareable resources, website headers, bilingual social media images, stickers, and coloring pages. Additionally, I promoted childhood vaccination events the health department and its partners hosted for the campaign.

Design evolution

The "Today's a great day" campaign was created for the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Districts (RHHD) and their partners under the Virginia Department of Health. The call to action, "today's a great day to…," encourages residents that any day is a great day to "get your child vaccinated," "renew your health insurance," "learn about asthma," etc. The design direction was always friendly, genuine, and approachable; nonetheless, the design direction developed after I created the first campaign illustrations with the cityscape background. The focus shifted from the physical environment to the people. People are the campaign's focus, and that reality gave space for the design direction to evolve naturally. The website headers I designed and illustrated are shown in this section.

Flyer Design 

The campaign informs Virginia residents about how to stay up-to-date on school-required immunizations and COVID-19 vaccines, encourages families to connect to care, and educates our residents about vaccinations, physicals, mental health, and other adolescent health issues. The flyers are shareable resources for our community members, organizations, and clinical partners. I designed the flyers and added complimentary campaign illustrations.

Social Media 

I created a social media campaign to promote childhood immunization, partner events, and mindful health reminders. I scheduled and wrote content across department Facebook pages, Twitter, Instagram, and NextDoor accounts. The social media posts were also released by our campaign partners NBC12 News, Bon Secours Pediatrics of Mechanicsville, Bon Secours Pediatrics of Richmond, Capital Area Health Network (CAHN), Chesterfield Health District, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, CrossOver Healthcare Ministry, Daily Planet, and Lillie Bennett MD, and other government and city officials.

Stickers and coloring pages  

I designed stickers and coloring pages for adults and children for vaccination at partnered events. The playful stickers give visitors complete creative freedom to use their imaginations and fill the blank space. They can write their to-do list, a helpful reminder, a space to doodle, or something random! The coloring pages are encouraged for people of all ages. I wanted to encourage adults to use coloring pages because of the innumerable health benefits. For children and adults alike, coloring reduces stress and anxiety, activates your entire neurological system, and each color evokes emotion. Warm colors like red, yellow, and orange induce happiness and optimism. Cool colors like blue, purple, or green are calming and soothing to our emotions.
